Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy — also known as cranial osteopathy, cranial balancing , craniopathy or cranial sacral manipulation—is a gentle and non-invasive kind of massage that involves soft touches on the bones or tissues surrounding the central nervous system including those on the skull, spine and pelvis.

It is usually performed by chiropractors, osteopaths or massage therapist to release tension or compression, relieve pain, boost resistance to disease, treat dysfunctions, and improve body performance.

How Does CranioSacral Therapy Work?

Based on the belief that a pulse indicating the rhythm of fluid that flows between the head and the sacrum can be detected, the therapist lightly palpates the patient’s body focusing carefully on the subtle pulse or movements. This is done by lightly touching the areas around the central nervous system. The touch is so gentle it does not exceed the weight of a nickel or about 5 grams. Through this process, the therapist can identify problems or restrictions present in these areas.

After identifying the potential imbalances and restrictions, usually characterized by the lack of rhythm, the therapists then perform delicate techniques that would release tension and relieve problems or restrictions in the central nervous system.

Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy

By restoring the natural position of the bones, craniosacral therapy releases the tension and restrictions around the central nervous system. This improves the body’s ability to self-correct. Generally, it alleviates dysfunctions or problems with the central nervous system, the endocrine system and the immune system.

More specifically, it relieves headaches and migraine, neck and back pains, eye problems, problems with the joint in the jaw, poor coordination, hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder, depression and many more.

Why Have Craniosacral Therapy?

Our body is exposed to stress and strains everyday. These, unfortunately, may cause our tissues to become tighter which might distort our craniosacral system. Consequently, it may cause tension around the central nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord, which may result in problems that may hinder the body’s performance.

The following are health conditions that Craniosacral Therapy can help

• Stress and Tension-Related Problems
